FOG will work fine with SATA (serial ATA) devices, but it has been reported that you can not take an image that was created on a SATA device and move it to a PATA device and vice versa.

Possible workaround to cross-controller deployment (for Windows deployments): Prior to creating the image from the source installation go to the 'Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers' section and update the proprietary busmaster IDE or SATA controller driver - select 'Install from specific location -> Don't Search ...' -> select 'Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller' -> Next to install it. This is what prevents the 0x0000007b error related at boot up.

During image creation you may get this error from FOG:

###########################################################################################
# #
# An error has been detected #
# #
###########################################################################################

Fatal Error: Failed located hard disk

###########################################################################################
# #
# Computer will reboot in 1 minute. #
# #
###########################################################################################

Check the BIOS settings on the target computer and make sure the SATA controller is in Compatibility mode (maybe listed as Legacy/Normal/IDE mode).

Some motherboard BIOSes do not allow the selection of Legacy/Normal/IDE mode for the SATA interfaces and default to AHCI mode (Will cause the image to not fully boot and hang at a black screen). In which case you would either need to make an image from a source machine with the same controller and leave the proprietary driver in place OR do a Windows repair install from CD with the appropriate driver integrated or using the F6 driver install function.
